Sobie, Puppy With Heart Disease, Loses Fight For Life

Funds are still needed to help pay for Sobie's medical bills.

A puppy in need who tugged at the hearts of North Fork residents who reached out to help has died.

Sobie, the puppy struggling with heart disease, brought the community together after Gabrielle Glantzman has created a "Save Sobie the Puppy" Go Fund Me page.

"Sadly little Sobie has lost her fight," Glantzman wrote on Tuesday. "She had a turn for the worse and we had to make the very difficult deciion to let her go and be free of pain."

The page raised $3,000 of its $10,000 goal.

"Thank you to all who have supported her," Glantzman wrote. "Her medical bills are very substantial and I would appreciate any help still, please. This did not end up as i had hoped but I got some of the very best weeks of Sobie love. I was proud to be her mom for her short time on earth. I love and miss you Sobie Girl."

Sobie, aka "Butter," needed help for have life-saving heart surgery.

Sobie, only a few months old, wass a rescue that Glantzman agreed to foster and has since adopted.

"She came from a very neglectful situation," Glantzman said. "Initially, we thought she suffered from pneumonia, having been kept outside in the cold weather."

Later, it was learned that Soby was born with a genetic defect, "right aortic arch abnormality", which left her with the inability to swallow food.  She was on a feeding tube in order to not only get nutrition in, but to keep her strength up. The condition was one that requires corrective surgery.

In addition to the Go Fund Me page, Glantzman also hosted an open mic fundraiser in December  to raise money to help with the cost of her surgery.
