Local Woman Starts Go Fund Me Page Pup That Needed Heart Surgery

Another fundraiser will be held at the Whiskey Wind on Dec. 22.

One Southold woman is asking friends and neighbors to open their hearts this holiday season for a little puppy in need.

Gabrielle Glantzman has created the "Save Sobie the Puppy" Go Fund Me page.

"Sobie, aka 'Butter,' needs your help to have life-saving heart surgery. Please consider a donation to her care. 'Tis the season of giving, so won't you give the gift of life to Sobie?" she wrote.

So far, Glantzman has raised $2,735 of her $10,000 goal.

Sobie, now almost  six weeks old, is a rescue that Glantzman agreed to foster and has since adopted.

"She came from a very neglectful situation," Glantzman said. "Initially, we thought she suffered from pneumonia, having been kept outside in the cold weather."

Later, it was learned that Soby was born with a genetic defect, "right aortic arch abnormality", which has left her with the inability to swallow food.  She has been on a feeding tube in order to not only get nutrition in, but to keep her strength up. The condition is one that requires corrective surgery.

As of Friday, Sobie had undergone the surgery and "was resting comfortably and breathing on her own," Glantzman said.

The puppy will remain under veterinary care until her chest tube can be removed, and will still need  to be tube fed until she can eat on her own.

In addition to the Go Fund Me page, Glantzman is also hosting an open mic fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 22  from 3 to 7p.m. at the Whiskey Wind Tavern in Greenport to raise money to help with the cost of her surgery.

All are welcome; a $15 admission includes door prizes, a Chinese auction with many donations from local businesses, and a 50-50 raffle. Half of the proceeds from the cash bar will be donated.
