North Fork School Districts Announce BOE Candidates

See who's running for a board of education seat in your North Fork school district.

The school board race is heating up on the North Fork.

At the Mattituck Cutchogue school district, William Gatz is the lone contender for a board of education post, with two seats open. With Gatz running unopposed, the other BOE seat will go to the write-in candidate who garners the most votes. If no write-in candidates step forward, the board of education will decide who will fill the open seat on the seven-seat board, according to school officials.

At the Greenport Union Free School District, incumbents Heather Wolf and Tina Volinksi are running unopposed for two open seats on the five-member board.

At the Southold Union Free School District, one seat is open on the five-seat board of education, and incumbent Judy Fouchet is running unopposed.

Five candidates are running for three open seats on the seven member BOE at the Oysterponds Union Free School District. Candidates who have thrown their hats into the proverbial ring include Betsy Dzenkowski, Dorothy-Dean Thomas, Thomas Stevenson, Charles Squire and Alison Lyne.

The elections will take place on the same day as the school budget vote on May 21.
