Forum Planned To Help Seniors Stay In Their Homes

The forum will explore resources available to seniors in Southold Town.

Seniors who want to "age in place," and spend their golden years in their own homes, often face challenges.

So said Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell, who announced a forum that will help seniors deal with issues including social isolation, limited resources — for those that are house rich and cash poor — and property maintenance.

The forum will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the town's human resources center at 750 Pacific Street in Mattituck.

Statistics indicate that 48.2 percent of Southold residents are age 50 and over. The forum, sponsored by the Southold Housing Advisory Commission, will explore current programs that enable seniors to live independently.

The event will include a presentation by FEGS on "Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities", Peconic Landing’s proposed expansion, San Simeon by the Sound’s adult day care program, the Family Service League’s home share program, and other resources offered through the the town and the Suffolk County Office for Aging.

“The town continues to explore ways to improve the lives of the many seniors who call Southold their home," Russell said.

Dessert and coffee will be provided.
