Strongs Family Buys Mattituck's Matt-A-Mar Marina

New to the site will be paddleboard rentals.

This season, Mattituck's Matt-A-Mar Marina will have new owners — last Wednesday, the family-owned Strong's Marine purchased the 9-acre, 43-year-old facility and renamed it, Strongs Water Club and Marina.

Jeff Strong, co-owner of 59-year-old Strong's Marine with his wife and two sons, said his family is excited to be able to offer a new facility to existing customers and new-comers.

The Strong's Water Club and Marina has a lot to offer, said Strong, including an Olympic-size, salt water pool and a two-acre park-like area that feeds right to the water.

That area, said Strong will feature a fire pit and chairs for members to be able to sit and watch the sunset.

The marina itself, said Strong has 135 in water slips for boats up to 75 feet, as well as a 25,000-square-foot indoor facility that will be used for winter storage as well as for valet dockage.

"Customers can call an hour ahead and we will put their boat in the water for them," said Strong.

To help transition Matt-A-Mar Marina's customers, Strong said he has decided to keep slip rates the same as the previous company has been offering.

"We are hopeful that they will want to stay here with us," said Strong. "We bring a lot to the table — we are very professional and are working to bring the facility up to our standards."

The property also features a restaurant, which has been closed for the past two years. However, Strong said he is currently working to find a company to take over the restaurant.

"We are in talks for the right fit," he said.

In addition, Strongs will host live music and has teamed up with Adventure Paddleboards of Hampton Bays to offer free paddleboard rentals to members. Residents and vacationers are also welcome to rent a paddleboard for the day, take lessons or a tour.

Cherryl Bradley, co-owner of Adventure Paddleboards, said she and her business partner are looking forward to their second location in Mattituck.

"I always thought there is a need for paddleboards on the North Fork. There are so many beautiful waterways that are perfect for paddleboards," she said. "This is so timely with this new club and marina opening."
