Race Organizer Donates To Help The Needy

One popular local triathlon generated thousands of dollars, plus an outpouring of food, to help the local needy.

One organizer of a popular North Fork event gave back to the area's needy last week.

Event Power President Steve Tarpinian, who heads up the annual Mighty North Fork Triathlon, presented a check to Community Action of Southold Town Director Sarah Benjamin for over $2000.

The funds, she said, were in addition to the food donated by over 600 athletes that participated in the Mighty North Fork Triathalon and a half pallet of food donated by Fairway Markets to feed the hungry families on the North Fork.

Earlier this year, as Southold Town board members debated a new policy that would put the brakes on for-profit race and bike events on North Fork roads, members of the public came out in support of the North Fork Mighty Triathlon. CAST members also spoke out about the organization's philanthropic efforts over the years to help local families in need.
