Hulling Night 2013: Hundreds Of People, Thousands Of Strawberries

High winds and cloudy skies couldn't dampen the spirits of the crowds who came to enjoy laughter, music, and community ties at Hulling Night in Mattituck.

Ominous skies and strong winds had nothing on the high-spirited crowd of hundreds who turned out Thursday for Hulling Night, the official kick-off to the 59th annual Mattituck Lions Strawberry Festival.

This year, all the past Strawberry Queens are invited to gather Saturday, dressed in white, for the crowning of the current winner.

Crowds gathered under a white tent at Strawberry Field on Route 48 in Mattituck Thursday night and shared stories of an event that spans generations and celebrates the deep ties of community.

Sharing strawberry desserts and dancing as they hulled, all agreed that one thing was certain -- they’d be back next year.
