Only one more week to get your master plan together.
As we come into the home stretch of 2011, we're relaxing but also thinking about kicking it into high gear once Jan. 2 hits. What are some of your goals for 2012? Are you like thousands in this country who renew the gym membership this time of year? Will you try once again to quit smoking? Create a better business plan and start paying off debt? Feel free to take our poll or comment in the boxes below.
Which device did you receive?
Gadgets are always popular gifts at this time of year, with everything from Android smartphones to iPads topping the lists of presents. Now that you've finally got the gadget you've wanted, and are ready to start customizing it with all kinds of new fun and useful tools, did you know that you could add a Patch app? Are you one of the lucky people who snagged a gadget, and, if so, which one? Tell us in our poll.

Anthony Nappa, Winemaker Studio owner, sent us this poem to celebrate the holiday season.
'Twas the week before Christmas, down-town Peconic, Not a grapevine was stirring, I with, gin & tonic; The sorting line silent, the crush pad is bare, The new wines all racked with attention and care; The ‘11s are nestled all snug in their barrels; While The Studio is lively with the loud sound of carols. I power down my PC and turn of the light, With visions of getting to bed early tonight, When out in the Lane there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter. Away to the window, I flew past the bar, The condensation so thick, I couldn’t see far. Newly fallen snow with the moon shining bright, Gave the luster of mid-day and offered me sight; When, what to my computer strained eyes should appear, But a bright …

The holidays are time to reunite with old friends — why not take them out for a few at the following North Fork bars.
Have long-lost friends coming out to see you and the North Fork for the holidays? We know about the tucked-away spots — ideal to scoop them up and have a talk over a beer or cocktail: 1. Finnegans Wake, Jamesport: This tavern is “way” off the beaten path in South Jamesport. Take a left at the main (and only) light in the hamlet and take a right on Third Street. You will not be disappointed in the friendly staff and low lights of this historic spot that was once a brothel — yep! 2. Cliff’s Elbow Room Too, Laurel: Talk about intimate — and if you like great food, this little hideaway is unbeatable. Cliff’s Too is the Laurel version of the Elbow Room in Jamesport, with signature steaks, seafood, all sorts of drinks, and affordable prices just…
Read a book a day with your child as you celebrate Hanukkah.
Late last week, we asked Southold Children's Librarian Dana Bruey to suggest some Christmas titles for kids and parents to read throughout the holiday season. Now as Hanukkah comes upon us, we asked the staff at Mattituck-Laurel Library to provide a list of Hanukkah titles for kids. Below is a list eight books for kids from birth through elementary school. Read one each day! All the titles can be found at the Mattituck-Laurel Library on Route 25, or check your local library for their titles. My First Chanukah by Tomie DePaola - This board book describes the celebration of Chanukah, including the lighting of candles on the menorah, the eating of latkes, and the spinning of the dreidel. Happy Hanukkah, Biscuit! by Alyssa Capucilli - …
