Cops: Man Stole Van, Crashed on Shelter Island With $70k in Goods

William A. Donnelly Jr. of Montauk was armed and on drugs when he fled from police on Wednesday, Shelter Island Police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, N.Y. — A Shelter Island Police chase led to the arrest of a Montauk man who was in possession of about $70,000 in proceeds from burglaries around East Hampton, police said. Following his arrest on Wednesday, William A. Donnelly Jr., 30, is being held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside without bail. Shelter Island Police Detective Sgt. Jack Thilberg said in a statement on Friday that police tried to pull over Donnelly in a stolen van on Route 114 on Wednesday at 3:56 p.m., but he refused, leading police a short case down Smith Street and Menantic Road. Police: Riverhead Teens Charged With Burglary in Mattituck Friday Morning

Southold Town Police catch four Riverhead teens in alleged burglary spree on Mattituck summer homes in the early-morning hours of March 2.

Four Riverhead teens were arrested for an apparent burglary spree in Mattituck early Friday morning, after a Southold Town Police officer stopped the vehicle they were riding in for a traffic violation on New Suffolk Avenue in Mattituck, police said. John Purpura, 18, of Jamesport; Brandon Coscia, 18, of Jamesport; Daniel Trimper, 18, of Riverhead; and Maria Schafer, 18, of Riverhead, were each charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools on March 2 at 12:45 a.m. The officer on the scene observed what appeared to be stolen property in the vehicle he’d stopped…

Police: Habitual Village Intruder Steals Money, Hangs Out in Victim's Kitchen

Southold Town Police charge Henri Alvarez — a Greenport man known for walking into and lingering in villager's unlocked houses without permission — with burglary on Feb. 23.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions. Henri Alvarez, 24, of Greenport, was arrested and charged with burglary on Feb. 23 at 2:50 a.m., after a 44-year-old Greenport man called 911 to say that Alvarez was sitting in his kitchen without permission, police said. Further investigation also revealed that Alvarez had stolen money from the victim’s wallet, police said. Alvarez has a reputation for walking into people’s unlocked houses without permission. Police: Mattituck Laundry Broken Into Again, Money Stolen

Southold Town Police respond to another recent break-in at Mattituck Laundry.

The owner of Mattituck Laundry reported to police on Feb. 17 that someone had smashed a window of his business and stole $300 from a cash box sometime between Feb. 16 at 10 p.m. and Feb. 17 at 3 a.m., police said. The owner was notified by his alarm company that an alarm had been activated that night, and he told police he is in the process of having security cameras installed and more alarms place on windows and doors, police said. This is the second break-in at Mattituck Laundry in recent weeks. Police are still investigating an attempted burglary from Jan. 26 that resulted in $250 worth of damage to the building.

Police: Greenport Woman Reports $4,300 in Cash and Jewelry Stolen

Village resident says masked man might have taken cash and jewelry from Eighth Street home.

A 48-year-old Greenport woman reported to Southold Town Police on Feb. 5 that someone broke into her Eighth Street residence sometime between 7:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 and stole $2,300 in cash and $2,000 worth of jewelry, police said. Entry into the home appears to have been made through an unlocked window on the porch, police said. A witness reported to police that he saw an unknown man wearing a purple striped hooded sweatshirt and a purple masquerade mask walking around the driveway of the residence around the time of the reported burglary, police said.

EAST HAMPTON • East Hampton Town police say they caught a burglar in the act and apprehended him in the early morning hours on Jan. 18. Police responded to a residential burglar alarm at 27 Atlantic St. in East Hampton at about 5:15 a.m. Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said Carlos A. Montaleza-Arpi, who gave his address as two doors down at 29 Atlantic Street, had tripped the alarm and tried to disable it. He said when police arrived, they found the homeowner's car in the driveway with a broken window and then discovered a broken window on the first-floor. SOUTHAMPTON • David J. Ramunno, 50, of Sag Harbor, was arrested Jan. 12 at 2:20 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, as well as moving from lane unsafely, a traffic violation. Southampton Town police said Ramunno was pulled over near Sagg Road and Mount Misery Drive in unincorporated Sag Harbor for failing to maintain his lane. According to the arrest report, Ramunno had crack cocaine on him. Michael Nomikos, 34, of Massapequa and a 34-year-old Babylon man were fighting on the deck of the Shelter Island South Ferry at around 11:42 p.m. as it pulled into the dock on State Route 114 in North Haven, police said. Southampton Town police officers told Nomikos and the Babylon man to stop fighting and get on the ground, but Nomikos refused, according to his arrest report. Police Arrest Suspects in Cutchogue Gas Station Robbery

Brant Ovsianik, 27 of Cutchogue and Spencer Stewart, 31, of Riverhead were charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal mischief on Friday after a police investigation revealed that the two men allegedly stole $40 from East End Auto Repair in Cutchogue and damaged several vehicles at the location, police said. Police: Burglary Suspect Resists Arrest in Southold

Southold Town Police chase down a Mattituck man who had just allegedly stolen money from a Southold home.

Jason Capazzola, 36, of Mattituck was charged with burglary, resisting arrest and harassment on Monday at 1:51 p.m., after a Southold Town Police officer chased him down as he was fleeing the scene of an alleged burglary at a Route 25 Southold residence, police said. Police were called to the scene after Capazzola was discovered within the residence. Capazzola attempted to flee after the first officer arrived. A struggle ensued after the officer caught up with the suspect, who stole money from the residence, an investigation revealed.
