The town does not provide curbside pickup of garbage or recyclables. There is a fee to drop off commercial waste at the transfer center. Compost and mulch is also available at the facility for the public to use, and a re-use center provides residents a place to give away usable items instead of throwing them away.

The family is from France originally, having relocated to North Fork in 2010 after falling in love with the area. Items sold include furniture, paintings, vases, sculptures, baskets and other indoor/outdoor home goods; many items are created out of reused and repurposed items, such as vases created from fire extinguishers and tables made from recycled steel and rubber. Esprit De France supports fair trade by selling products created by and to benefit people in poverty-stricken communities, such as handwoven baskets made in Ghana.
