It is operated by the Long Island Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association and is run by volunteers. This chapter opened in 1925, and features year-round exhibits and special events. The majority of artifacts are from the local Algonquin Indians from Long Island, and many come from the personal collections of three of the museum's founders: Roy Latham, Nathaniel Booth, and Charles Goddard. School groups are welcome and the museum tailors curriculum to the ages of the students.
