Village Considers Firehouse Remodel, Turns Tree Into Art

Greenport is looking to remodel its fire stations, host a fishing tournament to benefit the Greenport American Legion, and will turn a historic tree into works of art.

As part of a long-term budgeting strategy, the Greenport Fire Department is having consultants come in and review fire headquarters on Third Street and station two on Flint Street for potential renovations. Trustee George Hubbard, who is also a warden in the department, said the department will have two sets of consultants come in and provide a list of ideas and possibilities to help modernize the buildings. Top priority is making the bathrooms handicap accessible and possibily modernizing the kitchen, according to Hubbard. The consultants, Hubbards said, specialize in renovating and remodeling fire departments. Mayor David Nyce said any renovations would be slated for the future. Police: Menacing With Knife in Greenport, DWI in Mattituck

Southold Town Police report charges of weapon possession and menacing in Greenport and a drunk driving charge in Mattituck.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions. • Michael Webster, 23, of Greenport, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, harassment, and menacing on May 20 at 8:11 p.m., after officers responded to a report that a man armed with a knife was attempting to enter a residence at 219 Main Street in the village, police said. Responding officers were able to take Webster into custody after a brief struggle, police said. 14-Year-Old Dies After Bay Jet Ski Accident

Dominick Trionfo had just earned his boating license, Newsday reports.

A Middle Island 14-year-old died Sunday in a Jet Ski accident in Peconic Bay, Southold Police said. Dominick Trionfo was piloting the Jet Ski in the waters outside of Mattituck when around 1:55 p.m. he struck the line of a boat anchored in the bay. He was rushed ashore, treated by Mattituck Fire Department Rescue workers and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. According to Newsday, Trionfo was out on the bay with relatives when he hit the anchor of his family's boat. It was the teen's first time operating the Jet Ski since earning his state boating license. Trionfo was a freshman at Longwood High School. Read the full Newsday story (subscription required).

Police: Southold Man Hits Telephone Poles; Charged With DWI

Southold Town Police charge a Southold man with drunk driving after a Friday night car accident.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions. David Riddell, 35, of Southold, was charged with driving while intoxicated on May 18 at 10:02 p.m. after he left the roadway and struck two telephone poles, police said. After investigation, Riddell was found to be intoxicated, arrested for DWI and transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the accident, police said. He was released a short time later and was transported to police headquarters in Peconic pending arraignment.

Cops: Man Stole Van, Crashed on Shelter Island With $70k in Goods

William A. Donnelly Jr. of Montauk was armed and on drugs when he fled from police on Wednesday, Shelter Island Police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, N.Y. — A Shelter Island Police chase led to the arrest of a Montauk man who was in possession of about $70,000 in proceeds from burglaries around East Hampton, police said. Following his arrest on Wednesday, William A. Donnelly Jr., 30, is being held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside without bail. Shelter Island Police Detective Sgt. Jack Thilberg said in a statement on Friday that police tried to pull over Donnelly in a stolen van on Route 114 on Wednesday at 3:56 p.m., but he refused, leading police a short case down Smith Street and Menantic Road. RIVERHEAD: • Suffolk County homicide detectives arrested Guillermo Alfonso Alvarado-Ajcuc, age 21, of Riverhead for the alleged murder of Mirian Garcia, 29. Police: Orient Man Violates Town Code With ATV

Southold Town Police charge a 72-year-old Orient man riding an unregistered ATV with numerous infractions Tuesday morning.

Vasilios Tsisinos, 72, of Orient, was charged with numerous vehicle and traffic infractions and a violation of Southold Town Code on May 15 at 8:55 a.m., after police observed him operating his unregistered ATV eastbound on North Sea Drive in Orient, police said. Police: Bayside Man Charged With DWI in Cutchogue

Southold Town Police report a May 13 DWI charge.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions. Constantinos Andreakos, 33, of Bayside, was charged with driving while intoxicated on May 13 at 8:11 p.m., after Southold Town Police stopped him for failing to maintain his lane on Route 25, police said. Andreakos was found to be intoxicated, was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was held to await arraignment.
