Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center

Flag as Inappropriate

Both children and adults share the opportunity to learn about Long Island marine life at this facility, a 501c3 organization and Suffolk County contract agency. Researchers have helped reinstate Peconic Bay scallops into local waters by growing the shellfish in-house and releasing them into the wild as adults. They also travel to county schools to educate children about unique local underwater animals, such as scallops, clams, oysters and horseshoe crabs--a prehistoric arthropod that still thrives in East End waters.
