SAVES (Spay, Alter, Vaccinate Every Stray) is a volunteer-operated humane organization with roots firmly established on the North Fork. According to its website, SAVES promotes "Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) of felines, as well as spaying and neutering of companion animals. TNR is the only effective and humane solution to feral/stray feline overpopulation. TNR is a non-lethal method whereby stray or feral cats are humanely trapped, evaluated, vaccinated and sterilized. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes and the healthy feral cats are returned to their familiar habitats under the lifelong care of dedicated volunteers.
