In the early 1870s, residents of Orient, N.Y. formed a literary society. This society was charged with bringing entertainment to Orient. At the time, there was no town hall where entertainment events could be held so the society helped build Poquatuck Hall. In 1874, Poquatuck Hall was completed and opened to the public. This hall has been continuously used for more than 125 years.

Poquatuck Hall can be rented for weddings, meetings, concert, children's parties, christenings, and dances. A small fee is charged to help with maintenance fees. Poquatuck Hall is maintained by Oysterponds Community Activities.
