With two locations—one at 150 Bergen Avenue in Mattituck and another a few miles east at 24385 Route 25 in Cutchogue—Macari Vineyards is widely-known on Long Island as a pioneers of environmentally-friendly winemaking. Since 1995, owners Joseph Macari Sr., his wife, Katherine, Joseph Macari Jr., and his wife, Alexandra, have worked to transform 180 of 500 acres of Macari family potato and vegetable fields into a top-notch vineyard. Additional acreage is home to goats, cows, ducks, and donkeys—animals that, in addition to compost fields, help fertilize the vines organically.

Macari's Cutchogue tasting room, which opened in June 2009, stands magestically atop a hill off of Route 25. But the long-stanging Mattituck building, designed with a modern yet rustic flare by New York City architect Carol DiCicco-Vinci, is particularly eye-catching from the Main Road and attracts hundreds of tourists, locals and wedding guests throughout the year to taste an array of North Fork wines.
