Weird News: Deer Crashes Through Restaurant Window, Man Grabs It

Some stories are downright strange. Here's our wrap-up from around Suffolk County.

As a local news organization, Patch covers stories of all kinds, from heartbreaking tragedies to inspiring tales of community brotherhood. But some stories are just plain weird. Here are some of the stranger headlines from the past seven days.

A One-Buck Tip

Frank Mills, the co-owner of Harbor Crab Company Restaurant and Marina in Patchogue, thought that his restaurant might have been robbed when he received a call Thursday morning stating that the front window of his restaurant was smashed.

Upon arrival from his home in Blue Point, he discovered the intruder to be a deer that was being held captive by two of his employees, who according to a Newsday report, had to wrestle the animal to the ground and tie it with an electrical cord.

According to the report Suffolk County police and town animal control officers arrived at the restaurant and released the deer after determining it was not hurt.

The deer smashed through a front window and was trying to break through the rear window when the employees caught it, Mills said in the report. While inside the deer caused interior damage, including ripped upholstery.

An 18-year-old Patchogue-Medford High School student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly starting a fire in an occupied classroom, Suffolk County police told Patch.

According to police, the student lit a paper mache mannequin on fire at around 10 a.m. inside of the 181 Buffalo Ave. high school in Medford.

Police say the student is charged with arson in the 5th degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree.
