Voodoo Haunted House, A Love Shared, Country Fair This Week on North Fork

Here's what's happening in the week ahead.

Here's a look at what's happening this week on the beautiful North Fork:

- A Community Bird Feeder Watch Program kicks off Monday at 9 a.m. at the Downs Farm Preserve on Route 25 in Cutchogue. Group for the East End needs interested community members who would like to volunteer their time monitoring birds at the various feeders located at Downs Farm Preserve. The program will run throughout the fall and winter during the second week of every month. For more information about how to get involved, contact Missy Weiss at mweiss@eastendenvironment.org.

- The October meeting of North Fork Audubon takes place Friday at 7 p.m. at the Peconic Lane Community Center, at 970 Peconic Lane, with "Observations from the Beeyards, with Laura Klahre."  Klahre, will share firsthand observations about what can be done to help maintain the biodiversity of the entire planet by resisting the trend towards "urbanized landscapes." Topics will include insect behavior, gardening for wildlife, how to best support local, native bee populations and how the art of beekeeping has changed in recent years. - A Voodoo (Field of Horrors) Haunted House will spook crowds at Patty's Berries & Bunches in Mattituck Friday through Sunday. Shows: Fridays: 7  to 10 p.m. (PG-13); Saturdays: 2 to 5 p.m) and Sundays at noon and 4 p.m. (Family shows). $20 for adults, $10 for kids; cash only. For info call 516-521-7256. A portion of the proceeds will help Fight Breast Cancer.

- The 38th Annual Riverhead Country Fair unfolds Sunday in downtown Riverhead, featuring a pumpkin and vegetable decorating contest, tractor pulls, agricultural, homemaking and needlecraft competitions, farm animals, pony rides, entertainment, crafts, games, a midway, food and more. 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

- North Fork chefs will turn out to help a friend in need Sunday as Gerry Hayden and friends of The North Fork Table and Inn host a family style dinner in hopes of raising $75,000 for ALS research and quality of life care for Gerry Hayden. The event will take place on Sunday at 8 Hands Farm in Cutchogue, New York beginning at 4:30 p.m. “A Love Shared” is a collaborative effort between The North Fork Table & Inn, renowned Long Island chefs, local farmers and important community businesses, referred to as “Hayden’s Heroes”.
