Maritime Festival, Nature Walk, Vineyard Tour This Week on North Fork

Here's a look at what's happening in the week ahead on the North Fork.

- The 24th Annual Greenport Maritime Festival kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday in the village. Hosted by the East End Seaport & Marine Foundation in partnership with the Village of Greenport, the festival, which attracts over 40,000 people annually, will feature visits by Tall Ships, nautical arts & crafts, classic wooden boats, activities for children and families, music, pirate shows, local produce and seafood, wines and craft beer, fireworks, and visits to Bug Light, the area's lighthouse.

- Try a nature walk and head to Tuesdays with Tom at the Arshamomaque Preserve. Mid-September is the peak of fall migration. Warblers, vireos, and others could be seen and heard. Meet at Inlet Pond County Park in Greenport at 8 a.m. for the two-hour event. For more info and to register, call 631-275-3202 or email tdamiani3@ optimum.net.

- Friday Night Dialogues at the Shelter Island Public Library will present "Umbrian Twilight," with guest authort Giovanna "Joanne" Piccozzi on Friday at 7 p.m. Free admission. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.

- The ChickenKidz Children's Consignment Event will feature everything for infants, tots and tweens at low prices. Over 15,000 items. Clothing to size 14, toys, books, shoes, CDs, DVDs, strollers, highchairs, furniture, bikes, maternity wear and more. The Back to School event is being held at the Riverhead Polish Hall on both Saturday and Sunday.

- At Shinn Estate Vineyards, every Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m., Barbara Shinn leads a 30-minute walk through the 20 acre Mattituck vineyard, explaining the growing cycle of the vine. Learn about sustainable, organic and Biodynamic winegrowing. $20 per person includes a tasting of four wines.
