Week in Review: Election 2011, Scallop Season Opens, Model Nails to Move

Here's a look back at the top headlines from Nov. 7 through Nov. 13.

This week started with an early morning bang from hundreds of baymen scouring local bay bottoms during opening day of scallop season; Republicans got to celebrate early as an unofficial sweep of Election 2011 became apparent on Tuesday night; and one Mattituck business is forced to move from Love Lane while a high-profile restaurant shuts its doors in Greenport.

, , Several changes took place in the local business community this week. The owners of the Portly Grape Restaurant and Inn closed due to delinquent payments on rent, Model Nails is forced to move to Jamesport from their longstanding Mattituck location on Love Lane, and a lawsuit over the construction of a 24-hour convenience store filed years ago by Hess gas station against Southold Town was officially dropped by the corporation.

After witnessing several risky u-turns — especially on the weekends — at the intersection of Love Lane and Pike Street in Mattituck, town board members are considering installing "No U-Turn" signs at that corner and signs along the two busy shopping district streets that would help direct parking to nearby municipal lots.
