Wood carving artist helped save part of a 100-year-old tree that had to be cut down outside of last week by making it into a bench.
According to hospital spokesperson Eileen Solomon, the tree had become become dangerous due to rotting and she contacted Anderson, a Wading River-based artist whose creations can be seen all over Long Island, to see if he could do anything with the remainder of the historic trunk.
“He cut a portion of the stump, flipped it up and started sanding,” she said. “We still have a lot of landscaping to do around it.”
Thanks to Solomon for sending up this video clip of the moment.
