It's Kitten Time at the Southold Town Animal Shelter

The height of kitten season has arrived. Visit the shelter today if you're looking for a new baby kitty to adopt.

According to People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, "In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce an incredible 420,000 kittens." And any person involved in cat rescue can tell you that this is the time of year that many of these kitties are born.

Right now shelters, rescues, some Veterinarian offices, and foster parents alike, are all spending their days and nights cuddling, feeding, playing and nurturing oodles of kitties. Sadly, these individuals are also working tirelessly to help many of the babies survive the odds of not having a mom.

Currently at the there are a few litters of these precious cuties.  Spotlighted this week are some 8 week olds that were found under a barn at 5 weeks of age.  They were then fostered for a few weeks and brought back to the shelter afterwards.

These furry babies have been wonderfully socialized and are very friendly! They are going to be spayed and neutered and will be available to take home on July 1.

There is also a beautiful pair of kitty siblings that might make a nice double adoption: Vinny and Maggie. While Vinny is a bit shy they are only about 12 weeks of age so he can still come out of his shell explained Mary Johnson, shelter employee.  "They just need to be socialized," she said.
