Cross Sound Ferry Donates $14K to Eastern Long Island Hospital

Greenport hospital is presented check in memory of John Romanelli to help pay for a system to help critical cardiac patients.

A few weeks after aon the to the New London July Fourth fireworks show, representatives of the Cross Sound Ferry Company presented a check Friday morning to for $14,000 in memory of North Fork businessman and philanthropist for the ELIH Foundation. 

The hospital now has half the funds needed to secure a lifesaving system called—Arctic Sun, a new Emergency Medical protocol, endorsed by the American Hospital Association which calls for lowering the core temperature of certain cardiac patients.

The donation is the single largest donation ever made from the proceeds of the annual fireworks cruise — the event raised a record $17,000 on July 7. The remaining proceeds from the cruise will be donated as three $1,000 scholarships in 2013 for a graduating senior from each of the North Fork high schools - , , and This represents an annual award given to a graduating senior from each school.
