Claudio's to Host Lt. Theinert Scholarship Fundraiser

Have a good time on the docks of Claudio's Clam Bar Monday night while raising money for a scholarship fund in the name of Shelter Island native Lt. Joseph Theinert.

hosts the second annual Scholarship Fundraiser on Monday at 7 p.m.

According to Jim Theinert, Lt. Theinert's brother, the event is a huge help in building the scholarship fund in his brother's name. The fund gives aid to students from Valley Forge Military College and SUNY Albany.

a 24-year-old Shelter Island native, was the first serviceman from the island to be killed in combat since the Vietnam War. He died last June 4 while on foot patrol in Afghanistan.

"To be able to fund all of these scholarships is a true testament to what people can do when they come together," Jim Theinert wrote on the event's Facebook page. "So many people have so much love for Joe that we are able to keep his name present in so many different areas."

Admission is a $10 cover charge, which will go directly to the Lt. Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Scholarship. Enjoy live music, dancing, drinking, auctions, raffles, and merchandise sales. Donations will benefit the scholarship.
