Calcaterra to Receive ‘Woman of the Year’ Award

East End Women’s Network to honor Regina Calcaterra, New Suffolk resident and chief deputy Suffolk County Executive.

New Suffolk resident is not only the first woman to hold the position of chief deputy to the Suffolk County executive — as an attorney, she helped over the years to recoup billions of dollars from those who committed corporate fraud on Wall Street.

And as someone who grew up in foster care, has positively affected the lives of many kids going through the foster care system today.

Because of her ongoing commitment to excellence in her professional life as well as personal character and service to her community and her colleagues, members of the East End Women’s Network — now in its 30th year celebrating achievements of East End women — will award Calcaterra with its “Woman of the Year” award Wednesday night at Giorgios in Baiting Hollow.

“Not only did Regina Calcaterra meet all the criteria for our Woman of the Year award, but it was the combination of her career success, overcoming great adversity in childhood, and dedication to giving back to her community through volunteer activities including her work with foster care children, that is what sparked our interest and set her nomination apart,” said EEWN board member Ceil Carpenter. "We look forward to watching Regina as she continues to grow and flourish in her career and life."

Suffolk County Executive will speak at the event, which begins at 6 p.m., to honor Calcaterra, who quickly rebounded after her short run against long-time New York State Sen. Kenneth P. LaValle in 2010.

"Regina is a natural mentor to other women and someone I greatly respect for all that she does,” said EENW member Melanie McEvoy. “I've known Regina for nearly 15 years as a friend and colleague in the women's political activist realm. She has always amazed me with her energy at getting things done in all aspects of life. She is a true leader in every sense of the word.”
