ChickenKidz Children's Consignment Event

A children's consignment event is a smart way for you to clean out your closets and cash in! But what exactly is it and why is it coming to the Riverhead Polish Hall ...

To think I had bought EVERYTHING brand spankin’ new for my precious first child!  No more!  ChickenKidz is the mother load of bargain shopping for Moms.  And Momma - this isn’t just your usual yada, yada, yada.  This 3-day shopping event has EVERYTHING from kid’s clothing  to  toys, gear and furniture.  Moms can make some serious money selling their children’s new and outgrown items and other families that are still growing can purchase them at deeply discounted prices.  It also gives back to the community.  For those Moms that wish to donate their unsold items, many children in homeless shelters on Long Island will receive a helping hand they desperately need.

How did this happen?  It all started at preschool with a girl wearing a darling little dress.  And instinctively, I blurt out “Where in heaven’s name did you get that darling little dress?” (But quite honestly, I had boys so was just making polite conversation).   Her Mom was super excited to tell me that she loaded up on designer duds and toys for her kids 2x a year at rock bottom prices at a consignment event.  What the?  In fact, the money she earned by selling her children’s outgrown items paid for the next season’s clothes and toys.  It was a wash.  Holy mind blow!  The things you can learn by making polite conversation!

One problem … there wasn’t a consignment event in our local area.  Well, sometimes you just need to seize the moment.  ChickenKidz was born (and so was a 3rd child, a baby girl no less!)  It’s been more work than I could have ever imagined but a ton of fun. Why the name ChickenKidz?  It was an Aha! shower moment.  My children have always been chickenkidz since they were born.  No round, chubby babies for me.  Oh no, mine had chicken legs, chicken wings and chicken BUTTS whose pants fall to their ankles without safety pins.

But enough about me.  For those that thrive on details, here’s the 411 about a Consignment Event…

Consigning at a consignment event has many advantages over ebay, garage sales and online selling.  You do not sit with your items at a consignment sale. You price & tag your items at home using our online system and bring them to us. We sell them on your behalf and handle everything from the venue & advertising to merchandising and payments. We set up just like a store – merchandise is sorted and displayed by size and gender and checkout at our registers is quick because tags are bar-coded and scanned.  You can pick up your unsold items on Sunday evening or donate them to our partner, Community Housing Innovations, the largest homeless shelter provider on Long Island.   You receive between 65-80% of your sales and a check is mailed to your home within a few days of the sale closing.  Those are the basics.  If you want more information (and of course, you do!) check us out at www.chickenkidz.com or www.facebook.com/chickenkidz.

And ladies, we personally inspect every single item that is given to us.  Anything with damage, stains, excessive wear or anything in less than excellent condition is given back to the Consignor.  Anything sold at a ChickenKidz event is high quality – if I wouldn’t buy it for my kids, we wouldn’t sell it.  And items we particularly love – boutique items.  Those darling little outfits your child only wore once.  Janie & Jack, Flowers by Zoe, Hanna Andersson – oooooh, they make my heart skip a beat!
