Shoppers Rejoice about Whole Foods Opening

Those who were happy to see the gourmet grocery store open up in Wainscott took to Twitter.

When Whole Foods opened up last week, people couldn't contain their excitement — at least not on Twitter. One person even spotted actress Kate Beckett shopping there over Memorial Day weekend. Here's what some Tweeps were saying about the gourmet grocery store's first-ever FARM Stand in Wainscott. Do you agree?

I checked out Whole Foods on Saturday. Here is the thing....No...there was nothing local with most of their items in the store. I will still go to the farm stands for my produce. However...if there is an item that is not usually found in most stores, i.e. a specialty, then that is where I will find it...just another high end grocery store.

it bothers me that this chain grocery store is coming in under the guise of being a farm stand and taking away business from the other farms that NEED the summer tourism to stay afloat. so disappointing.

I checked it out. I liked it. There were things in there that I can't easily find locally (stuff specific to gluten free diet, in particular). Some stuff was cheaper, like Kombucha at $3.99 - it's $4.99 at Waldbaums. Some stuff was more expensive, like Zico coconut water, which was $6.99, but is $4.99 at Waldbaums. They had a HUGE selection of Lara Bars, some flavors I had never even seen, cheaper than any other place around. They had some neat organic/home made soups and salads, some Kale chips which were soooo yummy. They did have a pretty big selection of produce and meats, but for those I'll stick with the local stands for veggies and cheaper prices at Waldbaums for meats. I'm glad they're there, I'll be going there along with other places. For me, they're not taking business away from anyone local, as the stuff I got there wasn't stuff I can even find anywhere local!

You can find Zico water at Herb's for $4.99.
