Tuesday's races put Shelter Island sailing Olympian and crew in much better position to qualify for Friday medal race.

After a slump of a Sunday, in a second race, Shelter Island's have advanced in the Olympic women's 470 standings with a third and ninth place finish on Tuesday during the medal qualifying races in Weymouth, U.K.

The team is now seventh-place on the overall lineup, one point behind Gremany and two points behind the team from Italy, according to stats listed on nbcolympics.com. The need to place well during Wednesday's races to make it into the final top ten in order to race for the gold on Friday.

In Olympic sailing, the worst score for each team — which would mean 20 points for Clark's team — is eliminated for the final tally after all 10 premilinary races are complete.

Wednesday's races start at 7 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Click here to sign up for email alerts to watch the races live on NBC online.
