The riders will begin the journey on Saturday from the 9/11 Memorial in Boston and cycle across New England to the Mystic Seaport. “This year, the route is reversed — they are traveling from Boston to New York through New London to Orient Point,” said Cross Sound Ferry marketing head Stan Mikus. “We donate the passage on the ferry for all the cyclists and their support vehicles and staff, which totals about $1,500. This year we are providing a breakfast for them on the boat as well.”
The cyclists are all police, fire and rescue personnel. The funds they raise are donated to the families of fallen members of the police forces and fire departments who were impacted by the events of 9/11.
