Tour de Force 9/11 Memorial Bike Ride to Hit North Fork Monday

Annual bicycle ride to benefit families of fallen members of police and fire departments who were impacted during the attacks of 9/11 happens this weekend.

Monday morning, expect to see about 250 bicyclists on the North Fork, riding once again in the Tour de Force to benefit families impacted by the tragic events of

The riders will begin the journey on Saturday from the 9/11 Memorial in Boston and cycle across New England to the Mystic Seaport. They will then use the Monday Morning, depart New London at 7 a.m. and arrive at Orient Point at 8:30 a.m. The will ride through the North Fork and Long Island and will end the journey at the site of the World Trade Center.

“This year, the route is reversed — they are traveling from Boston to New York through New London to Orient Point,” said Cross Sound Ferry marketing head Stan Mikus. “We donate the passage on the ferry for all the cyclists and their support vehicles and staff, which totals about $1,500. This year we are providing a breakfast for them on the boat as well.”

The cyclists are all police, fire and rescue personnel. The funds they raise are donated to the families of fallen members of the police forces and fire departments who were impacted by the events of 9/11.
