Shelter Island's Clark Has Rough Olympic Sailing Sunday

After six of 10 races, local Olympic hopeful and crew end up in eighth place.

Shelter Island native and her sailing partner Sarah Lihan are currently in eighth place in the push for Olympic gold in the women’s 470 sailing competition in Weymouth, U.K.

The team was knocked from fourth place after a rough day during the fifth and sixth races of the 10 medal qualifers on Sunday, when they finished 19th and 20th. In order to be eligible for Friday’s medal race, the women have to score in the top ten after race 10 on Wednesday. Sailing is scored like golf – the better you place, the lower you score.

Clark and Hunting resident Erik Storck chatted with the Boating Times this weekend about dealing with the windy and wet weather conditions on the British port.
