This year's CROP Hunger Walk will be a 2-mile walk/run and will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Participants raise money from friends and family members. The money is donated to organizations fighting hunger on the East End and around the world. Local organizations that receive money include Community Action Southold Town (CAST), the North Fork Community Supper held Tuesday nights at St. Agnes Church in Greenport. Called "the granddaddy of charity hunger walks," these interfaith, multi-cultural events have been helping raise funds for more than 40 years to help alleviate hunger at home and around the world. Nationwide, more than 2,000 communities will participate in CROP Hunger Walks this year and raise some $15 million to support food banks, community gardens and other organizations, according to Church World Service, an aid organization that sponsors the event.

Pick up your registration materials at Blue Duck Bakery Cafe, Catapano Dairy Farm or Sang Lee Farms.

Registration begins at noon on Sunday, October 21 at First Presbyterian Church of Southold, 53100 Main Street. The walk starts at 1 p.m.
