It's April.....Fools.
Reminder that the tax deadline is fast approaching - April 17, 2012!
Today is April 1, otherwise known as April Fools Day. It also means that there are 16 more days before which the IRS requires you to file your personal and partnership income tax returns. (Customarily returns are due on April 15, but since this year it falls on a Sunday, and April 16 is Emancipation Day, returns are due on April 17).
Yes, you can file a request for an extension of filing your income taxes, but please note that this is not an extension on paying your tax liabilities. If you owe any income taxes for 2011 an estimated amount due needs to be paid with your extension requests.
If you haven't yet completed, or worse yet, even started preparing your tax return or extension, you are coming dangerously close to being an April Fool... you know, one of those people in a ridiculously long line at the Post Office on the day returns are due. Avoid the April Fool's line and get going now!
