Whiz Kid of the Week: Callie Bubb, Greenport High School Cheerleader

Whiz Kid: Callie Bubb

Age: 18 

Grade: Senior

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Callie ranks 5th in her class and is a member of the National Honor Society.  She has been a four-year captain of the GHS cheerleaders for both football and basketball seasons and captain of the Greenport-Southold softball team for two years.  She's has also been Editor of the GHS yearbook, "The Beachcomber" for three years.  This year she received the Wendy's Heisman Award for Greenport High School.  The Heisman Award recognized the nation's most esteemed high senior men and women for excellence in academics, athletics and leadership. She's already attained her Silver Award in Girl Scouting and is presently working on her Gold Award (the equilavent of the Eagle Scout Award in Boy Scouts).    

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: According to her cheerleading coach, Joan Dinizio, who nominated Callie for the Whiz Kid award, Callie is an extremely pleasant person to be around — always upbeat, kind, and a friend to everyone.

"I think it speaks volumes for Callie that, in everything she's a part of, the adults in charge have chosen her to be in the leadership position (i.e. captain, editor)," Dinizio said. "She manages her time wisely and is dependable in whatever task she undertakes. In my four years as her cheerleading coach, she has never once let me down.  I can think of no one more deserving to receive your Whiz Kid award."
