Representatives of the Southold School District released the following message Thursday afternoon regarding the death of freshman Ronan Guyer and support staff available for students at the school. Guyer died Wednesday evening after suffering cardiac arrest and collapsing this past Friday during a warm-up before the New York State Public High School Athletic Association cross country championships in Elma.
"The Southold School District community mourns the loss of Ronan Guyer, a ninth-grade student at Southold Junior-Senior High School, who passed away Wednesday afternoon.
Ronan was a genuinely kind, caring and compassionate person who was well-liked by students and staff. He was devoted to his studies and excelled academically. Ronan was also an athlete and was a member of the Cross Country Team. In addition, he was active with the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Southold Yacht Club and sailed on the Mattituck and Southold sailing teams. He was also a member of the NJROTC.
The district is truly saddened by this terribly tragic news and Ronan will truly be missed. The Southold Board of Education and Administration extends their deepest sympathy and prayers to Ronan’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Upon learning of this horrible news, our Crisis Intervention Team was immediately contacted and support services will be available to both students and staff, as needed."
