Porters Give Back Before Big Game

The Porters are stars on and off the field.

Greenport High School's Porters are only having a great season, but they've got hearts of gold, according to local supporters.

"While waiting for the bus, and before their big game today, our classy young men volunteered to help these people working on a clothing donation carry these giant bags of clothing up from the school's basement," said Angela Drinkwater. "I know this is a winning team on the field, but they are winners in so many more ways than just on the fiel.  So proud of all of these guys, always. Go, Porters!"

Added Erin Corazzini: "I went to the school to drop off clothes for the clothing drive this morning and found a mother and her daughter lugging bags and bags of clothing upstairs from the basement," she said.

"The football team was waiting for the bus to go to their game so I took a chance and asked them if they would help us move the bags. The entire team came right over and brought each bag up to the parking lot in all of five minutes. Not a moan, complaint or the eye roll we all have come to expect from teenagers, but smiles and complete willingness to help," she said.

"The Porters are not only a great team but an awesome bunch of men. Thank you guys so much and may karma follow you to the game and you come home with another win under your belts. You guys are the best," Corazzini wrote.

The Porters lost to Bayport 24 to 0 but, according to local residents, scored big with by giving back at the school Saturday morning.
