Poll: Should Oysterponds Negotiate With Mattituck-Cutchogue?

A 'Suffolk Times' article states that the Oysterponds School Board voted to designate Greenport and Mattituck-Cutchogue School Districts as secondary school districts Monday night.

According to a report on The Suffolk Times, School Board members in Oysterponds Union Free School District passed a measure, 5-2, at a special meeting on Monday night, to designate both Greenport and Mattituck-Cutchogue School Districts as receiving schools for the K-6 district, and go to a public vote accepting the agreements once contracts are finalized.

The district has considered allowing its students to attend Mattituck-Cutchogue , though the school board ultimately settled on Greenport last year.

According to the report, most board members consider having a second school district as an option a luxury when negotiating the cost to educate each pupil. Opponents expressed concern at the distance between the districts, and approval of any contract at this stage in the budget season.
