Oysterponds Superintendent Joan Frisicano Resigns, Richard Malone Hired

Elementary School Board announces changes.

After a year and a half with, first as interim superintendant and then as permanent part-time superintendent starting in April of last year, Joan Frisicano has stepped down from the position, according to an article from the Suffolk Times. Members of the Oysterponds School Board hired longtime Long Island educator Richard Malone to take her place, approving a two-year contract Tuesday night.

Malone is a Water Mill resident who has served as head of the Child Development Center of the Hamptons in Wainscott, the Morriss Center /Hampton Day School, the Long Island University Center for Gifted Youth, and the Peconic Montessori in Water Mill. He has also worked as an educational consultant in Smithtown and as an intermediate school principal in Southampton, among many other positions in education.

Orient resident Dorothy-Dean Thomas was elected as the board's new president, replacing Deborah Dumont, who has served as president for the past two years.

Frisicano said that she decided to step down for personal reasons.
