Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps' Annual Inspection is a Success

More than 260 cadets in the North Fork's consolidated NJROTC pulled off their annual inspection without a hitch at Southold High School Friday morning.

Cadets and parents flocked to theauditorium Friday morning for the most important day of the year for : The Annual Inspection. 

More than 260 cadets have been practicing for this day all school year, when inspecting officer, led by Lieutenant Colonel George, inspected each cadet as well as the unit's supply and administrative records.  During the inspection, the inspectors examined each cadet's uniform and quizzed them on their knowledge of the NJROTC program.

After the inspection, NJROTC supporters enjoyed a parade ceremony in which the cadets showcased all their hard work. During the performance, various commanders provided an explanation of the military history behind the inspection. Spectators watched the Armed Trick Team, commanded by Andy Ennis; Female Drill Team, commanded by Larissa Bellavia; First Year Cadet Drill Team, commanded by Ian Husack; and the First Year Color Guard Team, commanded by Joseph Peroni.

During this ceremony, guest speakers, including , LtCol George, and administrators from Mattituck, Southold, and Greenport spoke on the importance of the NJROTC program.

Thanks to the hard work of Senior Naval Science Instructor Maj. William Grigonis, Naval Science Instructors Senior Chief and NC1 Turner, Cadet Commander Bill Goggins, the platoon commanders, the battalion staff, and the rest of the cadets, Inspection was a great success.

What's next for the battalion? Next Saturday's drill competition, hosted by the Southold NJROTC at will include performances from the drill teams and is run by the cadets, parents, supporters, and the ROTC instructors.  As the only local drill competition, this is a great opportunity to see what the unit has been up to this year.
