Greenport Superintendent: 'No Damage' After Small Fire Thursday at School

The new solar system had not yet been hooked up, so it wasn't damaged.

A fire that started in a new solar system at the Greenport Union Free School District Thursday caused no damage, Superintendent Michael Comanda said.

According to Comanda the fire was sparked by two crossed electrical wires in a new junction box that caused a surge, which started a small fire during the 'testing' of the electrical system. No damage was done to the solar system as it had not been hooked up," he said.

The fire happened around 3:30 p.m. and no injuries were reported.
