Claudio Wins Age Discrimination Case Against Mattituck School

The Suffolk Times reports that the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District is found liable of age discrimination against former special education teacher.

Anthony Claudio, a former special education teacher at the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District, was awarded $70,000 in back pay on Monday after a federal jury found the school district liable of age discrimination when Claudio was fired in 2009, the Suffolk Times reports.

Claudio, 50, filed a complaint against the district in 2009, saying that he was fired from a department where most employees were female and under the age of 30. After the verdict, Mattituck-Cutchogue Superintendent James McKenna said that the school district made the right decision to terminate Claudio.

Court proceedings began on Oct. 9 at the federal courthouse in Central Islip.
