Budget Vote Kicks Off In Mattituck

Voting will go on through 9 p.m.

The budget vote began at 3 p.m. at Mattituck High School on Tuesday, and lasts until 9 p.m. Voting takes place in the gym.

The 2013-2014 budget of $38.8 million reflects an increase in spending of 2.24 percent and an estimated tax rate increase of 3.28 percent.

The proposed tax levy is 3.28 percent, below the tax cap.

Two seats are open on the seven seat board of education. Incumbent William Gatz is seeking re-election. One seat remained open and as of the vote, word was circulating that some residents were waging write in campaigns, according to district clerk Cathy Gilliard.
