Pet of the Week: Make the New Year Bright for Cleo II

A beautiful and intelligent Golden Retriever/Shepherd Mix awaits her forever home at the Town of Southold Animal Shelter.

Left homeless after her owner moved overseas, Cleo II, a 4-year-old Golden Retriever/Shepherd Mix, quickly captured the hearts of employees at the Town of Southold Animal Shelter.

One heart this canine captured in particular is that of employee Shannon Chute.

After spending a lot of time with Cleo II, Chute expressed how much she truly appreciates the sweetness of this canine. "She's such a doll that if I didn't have so many other pets, I would definitely be keeping her myself."

Not only is she loving, but Cleo II is also highly intelligent.

Shelter office manager Gabby Glantzman explained how somewhat of a dilemma caused by this intelligence. "Cleo II is an extremely smart dog who is an excellent escape artist," Glantzman said.

Because she doubles as Houdini, in order to keep Cleo II safe at all times, both Glantzman and Chute agree that she'll need a family who will either walk her on a secure leash, or keep her protected with an electric fence.

While she's in a safe environment, Cleo II's favorite pastime is playing with tennis balls.

Cleo is NOT good with cats and cannot live with them.

At this time it is not known if Cleo II is good with children, because she's never been around them.

Stop by the shelter during their visiting hours and spend some quality time there, to find out if Cleo II is that special match for your family.
