Longtime Restaurant Space Needs New Owner [Empty on the North Fork]

Former location of steakhouse, seafood joint and Italian eatery is on the market for $1.2 million.

Boats are being pulled this time of year from Port of Egypt Marina on Main Road in Southold, but one commercial space in the area is hoping to lure one customer in.

Most recently the home of JD Steakhouse and for many years prior, the Sea Shell, a vacant restaurant across the street from the marina sits on the market for $1.2 million.

Real estate agent Thomas J. McCarthy says there is "some interest out there now" for the space, which measures 2,200 square feet and holds outdoor seating space as well.

McCarthy said health issues of the family operating JDs led to its closure.

Cimino's Restuarant, an Italian joint, also operated in the space between its incarnations as steakhouse and seafood restaurants.

Which leaves us wondering: what type of restaurant would you like to see open up in this space? Or do you think another kind of business could flourish here? Let us know in the comments below.

Ideas we heard on our Facebook page: YMCA, Taco Bell, Luther Burger, Pancake House, a meadow, Cracker Barrel, the Blue, J&R Steakhouse, Olive Garden, and the return of the Sea Shell. Lots of ideas there...

Lots of bad ideas! Taco Bell? Olive Garden? Are you out of your minds? I do agree with a Cracker Barrel for that location.

A family style restaurant just like the Sea Shell that won't leave your pockets empty when you walk out. A menu where you don't have to read the description to know what your eating.

Local restaurants on the north fork need an Olive Garden or other chain that offers affordable, edible food in a clean environment- it would motivate local places to work on quality service, a clean place to eat (without hair in the food) for a price commensurate with the food, not overpriced mediocrity so often encountered on the north fork.

anything that does not have the crap North fork service that is the norm here! dirty dining rooms w/ cobwebs, dust, dead flies, etc. and the most lazy workforce on the east coast just won't do, which is what you get on the north fork!! The best value up here is the McDonalds in Mattituck!!! at least they are constantly cleaning the dining room, which is more than what I can say for the majority of the most Mediocre places that unfortunately operate here and claim to be providing a service. Disgusting to go out to eat in the North Fork!!! what a huge waste of hard earned money for the minimal service and quality in the history of food on the east end of LI. Stay at home and cook your own steak on the grill, and you should be much more satisfied.
