Greenport In the Dark After Transformer and Lines Go Down

The wind and rain brought down a transformer and lines in the village, causing widespread power outages in Greenport this morning.

Some Greenport residents woke up to a dark, rainy day after a transformer and lines went down on Sterling.

In a Facebook post, Mayor David Nyce said feeder number two is out and the crew is working to repair the problem. The mayor advised that the power may go on and off while the repairs are being made.

Power was off at as the teachers and staff welcomed students into the building this morning. One employee said the power had been turning on and off during the morning.
