Town To Talk Reduced Energy Costs, Usage

Southold Town residents hoping to reduce their energy costs can learn how at a meeting Tuesday night at Town Hall.

The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room.

The Southold Renewable and Alternative Energy Committee will host the informational meeting, where residents can learn about programs to reduce energy costs and usage.

The “Long Island Green Homes” initiative offers free or reduced cost energy audits to determine what improvements will make the home more energy efficient, including examining insulation, heating, cooling and hot water systems, appliances and lighting.

In addition, homeowners will receive a list of recommended improvements and associated costs and estimated energy savings, with an eye toward promoting efficiency for many homes.

Many ideas will help to transform older homes and make them more efficient and cost effective. No commitment is necessary for homeowners; the session will be presented by Brian Smith, sustainability coordinator of the Community Development Corporation of Long Island.
