Supervisor: Crossing Guards Make $75 Per Day, Not Per Hour

Scott Russell admits to mistake on documentation published on a recent Patch article; reader questions accuracy of other information available to the public.

If crossing guards near local schools made $75 to $90 per hour, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell would change careers.

"For that kind of money I would be called 'crossing guard' not, 'supervisor,'" he said.

The response from the supervisor came after a PDF of town jobs was attached by reader Benja Schwartz to The document lists the following crossing guards at the following rates:

Annette Ray: $92.12 per hour
Denis Salzmann: $75.54 per hour
Bonnie Scott: $75.54 per hour
Kristin Grathwohl: $75.54 per hour
Paul Tully: $75.54 per hour
Jeannette Wilke: $75.54 per hour

Though the crossing guards work short shifts around school hours in the morning and afternoon during the week, this information did not seem correct to Schwartz.

"That mistake and others are apparent in the document," he commented on the site. "Who gets how much?"

Russell said he notified all parties to correct any documents that list the rates as hourly.
