Southold To Host Community Service Forum

The event is aimed at organizing volunteer opportunities.

April is Community Service Month -- and the Town of Southold is gearing up to organize volunteer opportunities for civic-minded residents.

According to Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell in a letter to organizations that might need volunteers, the town "benefits greatly from the generous community spirit that many volunteers provide to different organizations, including town government. While there are many opportunities for residents to participate in community service activities, there is no central organizing entity."

To that end, the Town of Southold's youth bureau will host a Community Service Forum, with an eye toward promoting a "greater understanding of what volunteer opportunities exist within the town as well as foster additional ways to help those in need."

The forum is slated to take place Saturday, April 27th from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Peconic Lane Community Center.

The goal of the forum is to educate residents about volunteer opportunities and for those organizations that need volunteers to meet potential applicants.

Organizations that need volunteers and would like to participate should contact youth bureau volunteer Bob Duffin, at bobduff@optonline.net or Youth Bureau Director Phillip Beltz, at phillip.beltz@town.southold.ny.us.
