Reader Feedback: Key Issues In Patchogue Election

Patch wants your thoughts on what topic was in the forefront of your mind when voting Tuesday.

After weeks of a hotly contested race in Patchogue Village, mayor was re-elected and his running mates on the Patchogue 2012 ticket — Lori Devlin, Jack Krieger and Tom Ferb — won their race for seats on the board of trustees.

The four will officially be sworn in at a reorganization meeting in April.

With the election now behind the candidates and Village residents, Patch wants to know what issue was top of mind when you cast your vote on Tuesday. Take our poll below and leave your thoughts in the comment section as well.

Are you a dope ???? Do you think that anyone could force the Swezy family to move . They thought the move would benefit both the village and the business. Open your eyes and look at the big picture. Swezys expansion was too much too soon at the beginning of a faltering economy.

Do you realize that the investment of a home in a community is the investment of a lifetime for most people ?? We are not eletist, we are aware of what happens with rental housing. If no one rents the apartments will be subsidised. Subsidised apartments bring a blight on a community. Charles you will never admit it nor do I expect you to, but when it happens, and it will, remember this post. Then think how much you like this Mayor.

First - If you expect the readers here to take anything you say seriously, have the integrity and back bone to take the stupid bag off your head and own up to the comments you make like a man or woman (whichever you happen to be). Second- If 60% said four corners was the issue, maybe a portion of that 60% (maybe even the MAJORITY of that 60%) was for that particular issue and not against. Third- the turn out for this election was said to be "record" for a strictly village election and a lot of people are actually impressed with the increase in voters. Fourth(and finally) - Why not take some of your anger, disappointment and venting and put it into a more productive venue like volunteering in areas to make Patchogue an even better place. It's easy to complain about things and shows a lot more character when your positive actions do the speaking and not your words.

291 apartments on the Four Corners was a major concern in this year's election. Four Corner Apartments vs more foot traffic for Main Street. Many of the prime real estate properties in the village were developed over the last 40 years to bring more foot traffic to Main Street. We have many multi-family developments along the Patchogue River, Main Street, Rider , Maple, Waverly Aves and South Ocean Ave and still foot traffic did not increase. Everytime one was proposed we heard "It will bring more foot traffic to Main Street". Well none of them did, and many of our favorite businesses closed. Now that the election is over, we can discuss the Four Corners among ourselves leaving politics out of it. Ample parking and new businesses relocating here is the only way that foot traffic will increase, including that for the existing restaurants our down business district. We will start to see the effects of reduced parking, if and when construction starts, with parking areas closed off. The only ones that are going to benefit from this development is the developer that will make its money and sell it off, and the different trades performing the construction (we should not be grudge them the opportunity to work). and all the business owners located outside the village that will prosper from the "foot traffic that decided to drive instead".
