Public Hearing: Mill Creek Inn and Marina Renovations

Southold Town Planning Board will hear public feedback on proposed Greenport waterfront restaurant.

Builder Eugene Burger pitched the idea of a making a large waterfront building in Greenport into a restaurant and marina to the But the former Mill Creek Inn building, constructed by Richard Principi of Principi Properties, was built years ago without proper permits, leaving Burger several legal and environmental hurdles to deal with before moving forward.

The planning board will hear public feedback Monday at 6 p.m. on a new site plan proposal for the 3.27-acre property — 1.8 acres of which are upland — near Burger bought the property last June for $2.4 million. At issue are boat slips, many of which the previous property added to the marina-zoned property illegally, and finding room for roughly 90 parking spaces at the location.

Last September, Southold Town Trustees approved changes Burger can make to bulkheading on the property. Trustees also approved decks that had previously not been considered in compliance with the town's Local Waterfront Revitalization Program.
