For the 2012 Elections, voters in the North Fork Area will be deciding races on the state and federal level. Perhaps the hottest matchup, aside from the presidential race, is First Congressional District rematch between Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, and Republican and St. James businessman Randy Altschuler. On the state level. The state Senate race between incumbent Sen. Kenneth LaValle and Bridget Fleming is also an active one. New this year to the region is the state's Second Assembly District, which now includes Shelter Island. Though the incumbent is running unopposed.
